Admission to MBA (sectoral) programmes for the session 2017-18

UIAMS is offering MBA (sectoral) programmes in six sectors i.e.
1. MBA (Retail Management),
2. MBA (Banking & Insurance Management),
3. MBA (IT & Telecommunication Management),
4. MBA (Infrastructural Management),
5. MBA (Pharmaceutical Management),
6. MBA (Hospital Management)

For admission to above MBA (sectoral) programmes, UIAMS is conducting Management Entrance Test (MET) every year in the month of March. For this process, candidate have to register himself/ herself online on MET website https://met.puchd.ac.in to complete the registration process in due dates.

The MET website may open on 15th December 2016 for admission to MBA (sectoral) programmes.

The candidate must read the important dates and other instructions on MET website while registration for MET test.

SCHEME OF TEST

The Entrance Test will carry 85% weightage and be of 2 hours duration. It will consist of multiple-choice questions having four responses A, B, C & D. The components of the test will include: (i) General Knowledge; (ii) Economics and Business Environment Awareness; (iii) Data interpretation and problem solving; (iv) Numerical Ability; (v) Verbal Ability/Reasoning and (vi) English Comprehension.

Merit List

The admission will be ade on the basis of the Entrance Test (85% weightage), Group Discussion (7.5% weightage) and Personal Interview (7.5% weightage). The result of the Entrance Test will not be sent to the candidates. The comprehsenive result after the Group Discussion and Personal Interview will be notified on the UIAMS notice board as well as the UIAMS website https://uiams.puchd.ac.in

How to prepare Group Discussion and Personal Interview

A Group Discussion (GD) judges the personality of a person. It assesses the leadership skills, social skills, team skills, problem solving skills and presence of mind.

Group Discussion is two words "Group" and "Discussion". Group means a number of individuals who may or may not have interacted before. Discussion means exchanging information on a certain topic and coming or not coming to a concrete conclusion.

Hence, we can say that Group Discussion is a healthy discussion where a topic is analysed and discussed, and in the end, the members come to a fair conclusion. It involves team work, but at the same time, it portrays individual personalities.

Process followed in a GD

The group usually consists 20 members. They are given a topic and a few minutes to prepare. Post which they are called to begin the discussion and duration of GD will be provided.

Preparing for Group Discussion

There are  no specific rules to prepare for a Group Discussion. However, below are few points that a person can keep in mind while preparing for a GD.

1. Stock yourself with information: No one knows what the topic of GD is going to be. Hence, it will be a good idea to keep yourself abreast with topics like:

(a) Current affairs: for this read newspapers regularly and watch news on the television. Understand the recent crises that the world is reeling under, the latest developmental initiatives.
(b) Historical topics
(c) Sports, Arts & Literature
(d) Data crunching

At the Group Discussion and Personal Interview

1. Understand the topic: When the topic is given, understand the topic carefully.
2. Precise and sharp thoughts:try to stick to precise and concise thoughts.
3. Communicating your views in a effective manner.
4. Taking the initiative: Initiating the GD is big plus. But keep in mind - Initiate the group discussion only when you understood the GD topic clearly and have some topic knowledge. Speaking without proper subject knowledge is bad impression.
5. Keep eye contact while speaking: Do not look at the evaluators only. Keep eye contact with every team member while speaking.
6. Speak clearly: Speak politely and clearly. Use simple and understandable words while speaking. Don't be too aggressive if you are disagreeing with someone. Express your feelings calmly and politely.
7. Positive attitude: Be confident. Do not dominate anyone. Keep positive body language. Show interest in discussion.
8. Speak sensibly:Do not speak just to increase your speaking time. Don't worry even if you speak less. Your thoughts should be sensible and relevant instead of irrelevant speech.
9. Listen carefully to others: Speak less and listen more! Pay attention while others are speaking.
10. No need to go into much details: Some basic subject analysis is sufficient.
11. Formal dressing: Do not take it casually. No fancy and funny dressing. You should be comfortable while speaking in group. Positive gesture and body language will make your work easy.

University Institute of Applied Management Sciences conducted successfully Management Entrance Test (MET) today i.e. on 12th March 2016 (Saurday) for admission to MBA (sectoral) programmes i.e. Retail Management, Banking & Insurance Management, IT & Telecom. Management, Infrastructural Management, Pharmaceutical Management and Hospital Management for the session 2016-17. 

There were three examination centres, for MET test, UIET Block-I, UIET Block-II and UIAMS, Panjab University, Sector-25, Chandigarh. Inspite of heavy rain fall on this day, many candidates were appeared in the test and reached on time in the test centres. 

The result of MET will be displayed on UIAMS website www.uiams.puchd.ac.in in April 2016. After this, Group Discussion and Personal Interview, of 7.5 and 7.5 marks respectively, will be conducted in the month of May 2016. The call letter will be dispatched for GD/PI to the candidates.

PRAZNIK-2016 Three Day Event Report

University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS) organized a three day management-cum-cultural fest - Praznik 2016 on 5th, 6th and 7th February 2016.

After being inaugurated by Prof. Navdeep Goyal, Dean Student Welfare and Brigadier JS Phoolka; the day began with a blood donation Camp which saw the enthusiastic support of several volunteers.

This fest, being organized by the management students, saw ample of interesting events and competitions including Brand fix, face painting, talkathon, Bitarka (Debate), Launch pad, lead HR, Sherlocked and talent Hunt hosted by RJ Aakriti from 92.7 Big FM. Students from various colleges and departments of Panjab University participated and won exciting prizes by PunjabiCart.com, Vivo and Verka. 

The first day of this 3 day long fest concluded with some amazing performances by Artha and Segulithic Image and Rudra band who enthralled the audience with their ear pleasing music powered by Oye Rooms.

The second day of PRAZNIK'16 saw some of the most influential speakers and industry leaders sharing their expert piece of advice via panel discussions on Make In India and Start-Up India, organized in association with ASSOCHAM. The event was sparked with the presence of veterans like Mr. Vikram Hans, Mr. Harshvir Singh, Mr. Rakesh Rattan, Mr. J.D. Ghai and some of the first generation entrepreneurs like Samir Sharma, Abhinav Aggarwal, Kshitij and Vineet Khurana. They discussed about starting up a business addressing issues like Funds arrangement, Experience, Education, etc. They concluded by emphasizing on their motto "Bake your own cake". The discussion concluded by an inquisitive question answer session and a healthy dose of inspiration to students.

This was follwed by interesting events like Best Manager, Star Tank, Sur-e-Praznik, Mr. and Mrs. Praznik. The stage was set on fire by ramp walk of participants in Vogue - the fashion show organized in association with Tress Lounge and Max. The day ended on a high note with a DJ night.

The early rains on the third and final day of the fest did not deter the enthusiasm of participants. It saw mesmerizing performances in events like Step-Up (solo dance), Virsa (folk dance) and Baile (western dance) by students from across the tri-city.

This was followed by Alumni Meet of the department organized by the Training and Placement Cell. The excited and nostalgic alumni were addressed by Chairman S.K. Chadha and director of the institute, Prof. Sanjeev K. Sharma. The day ended on a thrilling note sparked by performances of Inder Nagra, Babbal Rai and Jassi Gill.

Overall, the three day event was a gala affair in the winters warmed up by the enthusiasm of both participants and organizers.
